The FM said that the decision was unanimous and supported by all the states. The Jaitley headed council’s go –ahead for the crucial pieces of legislation brings the country closer to the largest tax reform that it has attempted. The fm further said that gst looks on track and that the possible date of implementation is july1 subject to parliament approval. This was 11th GST council meeting. The council had previously cleared the compensation draft bill and approval means that only 2 more laws i.e. the state GST and Union Territory GST remain to be considered. The F.M. told that the legal committee is giving finishing touches to drafts of these laws and the drafts will be put up for approval on March 16 at the 12th meeting of the GST council. The state GST law will need to be approved by the state assemblies and its draft will soon be circulated among the states. The CGST, IGST and UT-GST laws will be tabled in the parliament during the second half of the budget session, which begins on March 9.
